Settings and Configuration

In this final video in the series, we are going to explore how to optimize your site with the WordPress settings and configuration tools, in order to get the utmost from your site.

The Settings sub-panel is the main control room for configuring how your site appears, operates and engages with your visitors.

Covered in this video:

  • General – is where you update your sites title and location – who can register – date and time display.
  • Writing – is where you setup the interface for writing your posts.
  • Reading – is where you determine if you wish to display your site as a blog with posts or with pages, like a regular website or a mixture of both.
  • Discussion – is where you control what people can say, how they say it – comments, pingbacks and trackbacks, email notification and what avatars to use.
  • Media – is where you determine the size of pictures you use in your site.
  • Privacy – is the place to set up indexing of your site in the search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.
  • Permalinks – what url structure is going to serve your site the best.
  • Miscellaneous – is where you set file uploading, link tracking and support options.
